It had been bloody cold.

いやー風邪で寝込んじゃいましたよにゃぅぅぅ。

On Wednesday 23rd December 2009, I had to call in sick due to full-scale nasty cold.

I have been slightly ill since Monday - during my 1-hour lunch break I had to go to my ethical Co-op Bank to deposit my salary (my employer still insists on paying by cheque!) and on this occasion I caught cold going out in the freezing Square Mile among sneezing and coughing crowd.

Until Tuesday 5.30pm I survived and I was still determined to finish my work for the year on the following day but alas, the bug hit me hard.

So, disappointing my dear Vicar, Fr Fergus, I failed to sing my solo let alone serving at the altar at Midnight Mass.

Then I could not go to my beloved dad-in-law's traditional goose Xmas feast next day.

And that's why we have had no Christmas dinner this year at all.

Grrrrr.....

Finally on this First Sunday after Christmas, I was back to serve @ the altar but could not hit the highest descant note at the last hymn Hark! the herald angels sing.

Moreover, I finally broke the Ciborium.

It has been wobbly for ages but this silver vessel seemed to outlive all of us.

I wonder if F A Dumont Church Supply people could deliver the replacement I ordered online today in time....

仕事納めが水曜日23日だったんですけど、月曜日に小切手で支払われた給与を銀行に入金しに昼食休憩時間まる潰しで外に出たはいいんですが強烈な寒波でシティは風邪ひきさんだらけ。ロンドンでは風邪でマスクを着用する習慣がない上に、豚インフルで懸念するメディアの取材に対して医療関係者の一部は「アジアみたいにマスクまで買い込む必要はなし」とコメントする者もあったりして、相変わらず咳とクシャミで遠慮なく他人に感染（うつ）して自分は治るという伝統的手法が愛用されてますから、見事にうつされましたよムカつくったらありゃしにゃい。で、仕事納めは病欠。その後イブのミッドナイト礼拝でソロを歌って侍者としてご奉仕するという予定もドタキャン病欠。おまけに義理のお父さん得意の英国伝統グース（ガチョウですかにゃ、七面鳥はアメリカだもんね）ローストその他のクリスマス料理にもありつけず、ひたすら自宅謹慎的な寝たきり4日。日曜日にやっと礼拝に侍者として復活、でも最後の賛美歌Hark the herald angels singではdescant（ソプラノのオブリガート）を完璧には歌えないというテイタラク、さらに銀製のチボーリウム（聖体拝受用のパン入れ、英国人はサイボーリウムとも発音するので混乱しちゃいますよ本当に）が遂に壊れちゃうし。首がグラグラしてはいたのですが、何年間も各角度に曲がるだけで完全にねじ切れることはなかったので奇跡的に大丈夫にゃのかにゃと思っていた所でしたからにゃぅぅぅ。クリスマスカードも年賀状も全然間に合うように送れてないしー（ゴホゴホ）。で、やっとトホホの背景を御紹介するテキストをタイプするまで元気になりました。皆様、今年も大変お世話になりました。風邪に気をつけて。よいお年を御迎えくださいにゃーん。寅年ってかぁー?

Industrial action @ Royal Mail郵便屋さんストライキ

Due to the industrial action @ the Royal Mail, my copy of RadioTimes was not delivered on Tuesday. Because I knew that my hero, Mr Terry Jones is featured to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Monty Python's Flying Circus, I had to purchase a copy from Sainsbury's on my way back home from work on Monday evening before the next copies will be on the shelf replacing the current copy on sale.

ストライキのおかげで、何年も購読しているBBC姉妹会社刊行の番組ガイド週刊誌「レィディオ・タイムズ」が定刻の火曜日に届かず、今週号はモンティパイソン放映40周年を記念して、大好きなテリー･ジョーンズさんがフィーチャーされていると聞き、日曜日の夜に「火曜日の朝には店頭で次号に入れ替えられてしまうから、買うなら明日、会社の帰りに近所の大手スーパー”セインズベリーズ”で買うしかない」と決意したのでありました。
However, when I got home, the missing copy was delivered somehow belatedly to our house by Royal Mail. Hence I ended up with two copies of the same issue. I wish the cover photo were Terry rather than this lovely young actress starring in the new BBC drama series Emma based on Jane Austen's novel. But at least Terry 's smiles are shown on page 17 so that's good. 実行したのは良いのですが、月曜の晩に帰宅すると、先週火曜日に届くはずだった分が月曜に配達されているではあーりませんか。てなわけで、同じ号が2冊も。とほほ。しかも、表紙はテリーさんではなく、ジェイン･オースティン原作「エマ」の再ドラマ化版の主演女優さん。ちぇっ。でも、17ページには、テリーさんの笑顔が2枚掲載されていて、テリーさんを取材した特集記事も全3ページ、よくまとめられていたので、ま、いっか。といった今日この頃のロンドンです。
